Brief Overview
Citrus pulp is by-products from juice production of fruits belonging to the genus of citrus such as oranges, tangerines, mandarins, lemons, limes, and grapefruits. Dried Citrus Pulp is not only as a source of concentrated feed nutrients for dairy, beef cattle, and sheep, but also it is scientifically proven for its ability to support growth and lactation in ruminants. It is a good source of energy and calcium, but very low in phosphorus and carotene. It is palatable and easy to mix with other feed ingredients. Citrus pulp is an excellent feed for ruminants for its energy source and well-digestability.
The making of citrus pulp is initiated by reducing the water content to about 11% via drying. Lime (CaO) and hydrated lime (Ca(OH)2) are added to neutralize acid and release water. The mixture is then pressed to eliminate the excess moisture. Then, the water-free pulp is fed to the dryer (natural gas dryer) and then pelleted and cooled.
